Study Task: Photoshop Animation

For this study task we were tasked with creating a pose-to-pose animation in Photoshop of a ball bouncing in more than one direction before rolling to a stop in order to demonstrate a knowledge of how to manage workflow and generate a moving image solution to a studio brief. Animating on twos, the brief states that the final animation must be produced at 24 frames-per-second and presented in a 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Pose-to-pose animation is the process of planning out keyframes ahead of time and then adding in the inbetween frames. This process usually applies to big budget collaborative projects as it allows for larger teams of people to work on an animation at the same time. Here, the ball was hand drawn using a Wacom Intuos tablet, allowing me to squash and stretch the ball and give it a weight. The arc of the ball was planned ahead of time as well in order to calculate where I would be drawing the inbetweens, which I marked along the path of the arc. Sound effects were later added in Adobe Premier Pro in order to punctuate the ball bouncing off surfaces and give it additional weight.
